Nashville Session Players • American River (A Song For Tara Cole) - 6 Stars
www.freedomtracks.com

Nashville musicians often come together for various causes. This CD is one of those times - with proceeds going to homeless outreach and related charities. The album is in remembrance of Tara Cole, a homeless girl that was murdered in Nashville, Tennessee. Some of Nashville's finest singers, songwriters and musicians joined in including Tim Buppert, Juli Maners, Razzy Bailey, John Heinrich and Steve Holland - just to mention a few. A variety of songs, good production and a great cause. Give it a listen!

Ben Stillwater • Ben Stillwater • www.benstillwater.com - 5 Stars

A lot of country music entertainers wear cowboy hats, but few are actual cowboys like Ben Stillwater. Being from Montana gives Ben a unique perspective on true “country and western” music and it's obvious he has a real respect for tradition. This album reflects that background and includes a couple of his own songs entitled “Front Door Of Home” and “Montana.” He's also included a rockin' favorite, “Johnny B. Good,” but with a traditional twist - Ben Stillwater style. Looking forward to more from this cowboy.

Charlie Painter • Thanks For Nothin' • www.charliepainter.com - 4 Stars

Charlie Painter's CD Thanks For Nothin' is traditional to the core. He selected four songs from hit songwriter, Randy Albright, giving the project a solid song foundation. The noticeably country production lends itself well to Charlie's vocals. Songs like “Cold As The Stone In The Ring On Your Finger” and “The Fisherman Of Stony Creek” are reminiscent of past country sounds. A nice walk down memory lane.

Dukes of Dixieland / Oak Ridge Boys • When Country Meets Dixie - 6 Stars
www.dukesofdixieland.comwww.oakridgeboys.com

When Country Meets Dixie is a unique genre blend of Country and Dixieland. Combining the talents of the Dukes of Dixieland and the Oak Ridge Boys produces a smooth mix; however, the CD leans more towards Dixieland than Country. Filled with familiar songs like “Closer Walk With Thee,” “Unclouded Day” and “Jambalaya,” there’s also a new twist on the Oaks hits “Elvira” and “Bobby Sue.” Nice!

Todd Sparks • The Gulf Of Mexico • www.toddsparks.com - 5 Stars

Todd Sparks CD takes us on an excursion to The Gulf Of Mexico! Writing all the songs on the project, Todd delivers, not only with his words, but with his vocals as well, transporting the listener along the Gulf Coast - from Florida (“Florida Days) and Louisiana (“The Border Of The Quarter) to Texas (“Tip Toe Out Of Texas”). So grab a pina colada, close your eyes, picture those palm trees swaying in the wind and relax!

Everett Stora • Way Back • www.reverbnation.com/EverettStora - 5 Stars

Billed as the Jamaican Cowboy, Everett Stora brings his brand of country music to his new CD, Way Back. Writing all six songs, Everett’s talents shine particularly on “My World” - a traditional country song with plenty of steel guitar and “Running” - a gentle song about father and daughter. From traditional to more contemporary material, Everett shows his understanding and love of country music. Welcome to Nashville!

Earl Brewer • Standing Up For Country • www.cdbaby.com/cd/earlbrewer - 4 Stars

Earl Brewer’s CD, Standing Up For Country is aptly titled. Opening with “George Won’t Have To Wonder Anymore,” an answer to the George Jones’ classic, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes,” is country to the core, as is this entire project. From songs like “Bottom Of The Bottle” to “My Roots Are Country Deep” - Earl is doing his part to keep traditional country music alive. Plenty of steel guitar, country fiddle and toe tappin’ country fun.

Chris Daniels Project • Years Behind Bars • www.chrisdanielsproject.com - 4 Stars

The Chris Daniels Project rocks the house with their CD, Years Behind Bars. Justin Haigh • People Like Me • www.justinhaigh.com - 7 Stars

Justin Haigh's People Like Me CD opens up with the song, “All My Best Friends (Are Behind Bars),” which should be a country music standard. Some of Nashville's finest songwriters contributed songs to this traditional country project and it shows. Justin's voice shines on all the top-shelf material, but particularly appealing is “Is It Still Cheating” and the cover of Waylon's “A Rose In Paradise.” This young man has a very bright future!

Kelly Parkes • First 5 • www.kellyparkes.com - 6 Stars

Kelly Parkes' new release, First 5, gives a little glimpse into her contemporary style. From the powerful straightforward ballad, “Don't Make Me” to the Cajun-flavored up-tempo song, “Girl With A Fishing Rod,” Kelly's vocals don't disappoint. Looking forward to the next five!

Mike Short Jr. • Stirrin' Things Up • www.mikeshortjr.com - 6 Stars

Mike Short Jr.'s Stirrin' Things Up album starts out rockin' with songs “Stirrin' Things Up” and “It's All Good.” However, he is overpowered by electric guitar on those first two selections, but by track 3, Mike's talent really begins to shine, particularly on the self-penned songs, “She's Good At Sunday” and “Slow Dancin' With A Memory.”

Byron Hill • Radio Songs • www.byronhillmusic.com - 5 Stars

Byron Hill is a songwriter extraordinaire with a long list of credentials. For this album, he picks some of his chart hits for artists like Johnny Lee, George Strait, and George Jones. With songs like “Pickin' Up Strangers” and “Fool Hearted Memory,” this CD is a walk down memory lane. These stripped down acoustic versions highlight why Byron Hill is one of Nashville's best.

Mike Bryant • New Friends Are Silver Old Friends Are Gold - 4 Stars
www.mikebryant-nashville.net

Mike Bryant’s New Friends Are Silver Old Friends Are Gold CD is a collection highlighting his diverse skills - he wrote the songs, sung lead and harmonies, played steel guitar, bass, piano and keyboards, engineered, produced and even did the graphic design. As mentioned in his liner notes, this project was heavily influenced by the death of two friends and has an overall somber tone – almost too much so at times even for traditional country music.

Brenda Lynn Allen • Thoughts Of Me And You - 4 Stars
www.brendalynnallen.com

Thoughts Of Me And You is the debut CD from Brenda Lynn Allen. Adding familiar songs like “The Wayward Wind” and “I Still Miss Someone” to seven of her original songs offers a nice mixture. While this is a worthy start to her recording and songwriting career, with a little more experience and development, her next project should be a better showcase of her talent.

Scott Carey's CD Long Road To Nashville opens with “Little Bit A Country,” a very modern country number heavy on the rock'n roll guitar. Once he settles into a more solid country style, his talent begins to shine. Writing or co-writing all the songs, his interpretation is honest and real particularly on “Smile” and “Love Me Again.” A very commercial and radio friendly CD.

John Prestia • It's Only Me - 4 Stars
www.myspace.com/johnprestiamusic

An aptly titled album, It's Only Me, features only John Prestia - songwriter, singer and musician. While the production is sparse and was “recorded in hotel rooms and nooks and crannies along the way on the 2011 Tim McGraw „Emotional Traffic' tour,” it's a welcomed rough and raw look at how John envisioned his songs. A nice bluesy songwriter's album.
