Feelings

I don’t know how to feel anymore, I’m so confused
Times have changed rapidly since my youth
Friends grow older and then grow apart
Boys kiss and tell and then break your heart
Families will split and then fuss and feud
Many years may pass by as they stew and brood
Promises get broken and secrets are spilled
Broken hearts remain scarred, but never fully heal

How can I feel anything in a world so divided
This envious atmosphere has became so one-sided
Seeking answers in The Bible which most have now cast aside
Laws are pushing out religion, it doesn’t fit within our times
The laws of our God seem to no longer apply
When they offend people who don’t see eye to eye
No more soft words, smiles, hugs, or blessings
Modern technology leaves it all to twitter and texting

I don’t understand feelings in this new electronic age
It came up so quickly and took off in a rage
I was brought up with communication, one on one
We shared, we laughed, and emoting was fun
A hug when we hurt, or kind words were shared
Tears wiped away by someone who cared
A Bible verse to strengthen our faith each day
Life as I knew it has been swept away

Thank God for the handful of people out there
Who still find the time to open up and share
To pen out a letter, or pick up a phone and call
or drop by for a visit, or meet at the mall
That human connection that God created us for
I think it’s called love, but I’m not sure anymore
Emoticons have replaced revealing our feelings inside
Words no longer exchanged, as the spoken word has died.
